## Mindset first

Stop thinking "online earning is a fraud", "SEO is dead" or "the market is
saturated". Replace that mindset. Become serious yourself before life makes
you serious. Do not waste time.[^khurram-notes]

## Social sharing for rank and rent sites

For every rank and rent site, create profiles on:

- Facebook, X (Twitter), LinkedIn, Instagram
- Pinterest, Reddit, TikTok, Tumblr
- Pocket, Bluesky, Threads

**Plugin: Blog2Social** automatically shares blog posts across all these
platforms, which saves time and keeps social activity

## Foundational links ("Nandla links")

Improving a new site's DA is easy at the start. Create profiles on high-DA
platforms:

- Dell Community, Canva, Wikipedia, Medium
- Moz, Blogger, IBM, Google Support
- Amazon, Samsung, OpenAI, NVIDIA, Zoom, iFixit

## Dofollow vs nofollow: brand mentions are valuable too

A mention of your website is valuable too, whether it is nofollow or just
a brand mention: AI and Google treat that mention as a trust

## Local business citations

List your business on online directories. **NAP** (Name, Address, Phone)

Major citation sites:

- **Google Business Profile** (the most important)
- Yelp, Clutch, Apple Maps, Bing Places
- Yahoo Local, Thumbtack, Manta, MerchantCircle
- Hotfrog, Yellow Pages, Ezlocal, Trustpilot, BBB

## Citation types

| Type | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Major | Trust + authority |
| Niche | Relevance (e.g. a pest control site in pest control directories) |
| Regional | Proximity signals |
| Unstructured | Incomplete NAP, less effective |
| Unclaimed | Skip |
| Stacked | Avoid: multiple inconsistent listings mean NAP confusion and a drop in trust |

## Where to find citations: three methods

1. **Best: competitor citations.** Use Google operators:
   - `allintext:"Competitor Phone Number"`
   - `allintext:"Competitor Address"`
   - `"Competitor Brand Name"`
   - `"Competitor Website URL"`

   Whatever directories you find, create your listing there.
2. **ChatGPT**: "Give me Google operators to find business directories for
   [niche] in [city]".
3. **Google search**: "Top Business Citation Sites", "Free Business
   Citation Sites", "Local SEO citation sites list".[^khurram-notes]
