On Etsy, **90%** of the game is **niche research** and **keyword
research**.[^etsy-class-12-13]

## The research methods

- **Autocomplete method:** put a **short tail** keyword into the Etsy search
bar and keep watching what Etsy suggests. This gives you more keywords.
Doing it in **incognito** is the best option.
- **Alphabet method:** type the alphabet into the search bar one letter at a
time, **a to z**, and Etsy gives you suggestions itself.
- **Category method:** through a **category** you can see Etsy's products
and take keywords out of them.
- **Google search:** you can also search for keywords through Google.
- **Google related searches:** you can take keywords out of Google's related
  searches too.
- **Pinterest style search.**
- **Competitor title research.**
- **Competitor tags research.**
- **Word frequency:** make a sheet of **30 to 50 competitors** and add
**50 titles** to it. Have ChatGPT count which words are used the most
times. The keywords are in those words.
- **Competitor shop research:** take out any competitor's shop.
- **Keyword gap:** search any keyword and open a listing. Put its URL into
**RankKW**'s **keyword gap analysis** option, and you get the keyword gap
  there.
- **Product + attributes formula.**
- **Buyer intent formula.**
- **Google Trends:** you can take keywords out of Google Trends as
  well.[^etsy-class-12-13]

## Shop assignment criteria

For the assignment, find shops that meet all of these:[^etsy-class-12-13]

| Metric | Threshold |
| --- | --- |
| Shop age | Under 6 months |
| Sales | More than 100 |
| Favourites | More than 10 |
| Views | More than 5,000 |

Once you find shops like this, you can **replicate** them. Their **top
listing** can be copied.[^etsy-class-12-13]
