## What an Etsy listing is made of

An Etsy listing is five parts:

- Title
- Tags
- Price
- Description
- Image

## Keyword research is most of the game

**70% of Etsy SEO is keyword research.** A keyword with low KD (keyword
difficulty) and high search volume can bring a sale within one
week.

The same base terms apply here as everywhere else in this record (see the
*SEO glossary*): whatever a buyer types into Etsy's search bar is a
**keyword**; the topic a listing tries to rank for is its **niche**.

Three ways to collect related keywords in bulk, and the metric combination
a keyword has to pass, are in [Finding Etsy keywords in bulk: three methods
and the selection formula](etsy-keyword-research-in-bulk.md).

## Why a dedicated Etsy keyword tool exists

A generic keyword tool doesn't publish to Etsy or read back what happened
after a listing goes live. A tool built for Etsy specifically, such as
RankKW (see [RankKW: the Etsy SEO tool and shop criteria](etsy-rankkw-tool-and-listing-criteria.md)), closes that
loop:

- Give it a keyword and a source file, and it publishes the listing to Etsy
  automatically.
- It stays connected to the shop afterward, so sales, overview, and listing
performance are all visible through the same tool.
