Some categories of niche are consistently easier to rank than others, wherever in the world you're targeting:1

  • Informational niches — e.g. a restaurant menu.
  • Downloadable niches — e.g. an APK (see APK niche research).
  • Government programs — e.g. an electric-bike subsidy or a home-loan program.
  • Government certificates
  • Government products
  • Government portal login and account details
  • Government bills

These work in essentially any country — Philippines, Thailand, South Africa, or anywhere else.

Finding government-program niches

  1. Ask ChatGPT or Claude for government program ideas, per country.
  2. Use modifiers — portal, login, status, registration — inside Ahrefs Keyword Explorer to surface good niches around those programs.
  3. Run a normal SERP analysis on the results.
  4. Copy one competitor's URL and reverse-engineer it.
  5. Look at its keywords for a goldmine.

Finding niches with Ahrefs Content Explorer

A different Ahrefs tool from Keyword Explorer, useful for surfacing entire sites worth reverse-engineering rather than individual keywords:

  1. Open Content Explorer in Ahrefs.
  2. Search a topic (e.g. "apk").
  3. Filter platform to WordPress.
  4. Filter by language (English, or whichever you're targeting).
  5. Add a filter for minimum page traffic (e.g. 5,000).
  6. Click Show results.
  7. Look for sites with a low DR among the results, and reverse-engineer them.

A revision pass on this same method used a slightly different filter combo, also worth trying: published in the last 90 days, platform set to blog, language set to whichever you're targeting (e.g. Spanish), and DR up to 20 — then look for the low-DR, good-traffic sites in the results.1

A currently hot goldmine (worth revisiting, time-sensitive)

As of this course's most recent revision session, two specific leads stood out and are worth checking again rather than trusted indefinitely:

  • Searching "portal" in Content Explorer, filtered to Spanish, turned up niches with traffic in the millions.
  • Dominican Republic was called out as a country whose top niches were, at that time, an especially good opportunity.

Market conditions like this shift — treat both as a starting point to re-verify with fresh data, not a standing fact.1
