This whole document is from a make-up session of the SEO module, Niche Research: Untapped Niches, taught by Sir Ghazanfar Abbas.

This is one of the best methods of niche research, and it is the teacher's own tested method. It reaches niches that no tool can tell you.1

Before you start

  • Turn on incognito mode in the browser.
  • Log in to any tool there. Keep in mind that no tool is exact: they all give estimated results.
  • The aim is to build a website on a niche whose number of pages is small.1

Part 1: an untapped keyword in a chosen country (the menu example)

  1. First decide which country you will work in, and select that same country.
  2. Google your target keyword, for example "usa menu".
  3. Now find a keyword whose name you have never heard before, which means it is untapped. Look for it in the titles of the pages in incognito mode. If you do not find one, go to the next page, until you reach a keyword you have never heard of.
  4. When you find the keyword, check the traffic of that website with the Ahrefs free traffic checker. For example, if greggs menu shows up, look at the traffic of the first site that appears.
  5. Then check that keyword's traffic with any tool.
  6. Then look at the traffic of the keyword's official or dedicated site. In this example, search greggs, find the official site and look at its traffic. This gives you an idea of the potential.
  7. After the official site, if there is a local site, look at its traffic too.
  8. This finalises the keyword.1

You can work the same way in every language and every country of the world, not only in English.1

Part 2: an info niche in India, through government sites

  1. To work in India, set the country to India and the language to Hindi in the settings.
  2. There is a lot of work in India, and pages rank very quickly.
  3. In India, most of the work is on government websites: their schemes, portals and insurance schemes. Look for those.
  4. Type inurl: .gov in Google and explore. It means a URL that contains .gov.
  5. The websites that come up get a lot of traffic. Open them and take ideas from them.
  6. Put those websites into the Ahrefs free traffic checker. Their top keywords are written there too. Take those keywords and build websites on them. These are keywords that rank in 2 days.
  7. Build websites on keywords with 2.5 lac (250,000) traffic a month, and your site gets 5 lac (500,000) traffic, because there will be other keywords too and Google will give you traffic.1
  • Do not worry when you see a government site's DR: it is a government site. Look at your own keywords, and at how much traffic the blogs ranking for them get.
  • You will find a great many untapped niches here.1

More search operators

  • Search intitle: portal on Google the same way. Every title that says portal will come up.
  • Instead of .gov in inurl:, you can use .org, .edu and many more, and find more untapped niches.1

Rules to remember

  • Whenever you take an idea, check the traffic of the domain, not of the full URL.
  • If the official site has traffic and there is no local site, consider that keyword: ranking there is easy.
  • If your website ranks well, it also comes up in the AI Overview.1
