Creating an Etsy shop

How to set up an Etsy account correctly for a Quick Skills (Etsy) shop: buyer signup, seller conversion, country/currency, shop naming, and account security.

Start as a buyer account

Every Etsy shop starts life as a buyer account. Create it at etsy.com with a direct email address, not "Continue with Google." Signing up with Google here causes problems later in the seller setup, so email is the requirement, not just a preference.

Convert it to a seller account

Click Sell on Etsy to start the seller flow, and set:

  • Country: Pakistan
  • Currency: USD

If Etsy isn't available in your own country, select Pakistan anyway rather than leaving this unset.

Naming the shop

The shop name must be unique, and it should never be your own real name. Keep it one of:

  • niche-specific,
  • general, or
  • brand-specific.

Skip the EtsyPlus upsell

Etsy offers an EtsyPlus subscription partway through setup; skip it.

Secure the account

Turn on "Keep your shop extra safe" and authenticate it with the Google Authenticator app, not SMS.
